My "new" 1990 Audi Coupe Quattro is nice; at 67,000 or so miles it is probably THE lowest mileage version of that car in the USA. It's basically in excellent mechanical shape, although the R134a conversion needs some looking into (the R134a low pressure valve seems to loosen up causing it to loose refrigerant frequently). Visually, one of my main concerns is the black rubber trim near the bottom, between the doors and rear wheel well, where you can see it doesn't quite meet ...Read Full Post »

Today, 12. June, 2011 Audi wins it's 10th (out of 13) LeMans races! Their brand new R18 diesel-powered LMP1 prototype race car using "Ultra" light technology won 1st place (with Peugeot taking 2nd & 3rd place).
Audi did unfortunately suffer 2 major crashes in the early part of the grueling 24 hour race, leaving it all up to just one car! The drivers of the 2 cars walked out of the wrecks, proving once again that Audi vehicles are safe (and i...Read Full Post »

I think that sometimes automotive engineers are only worried about assembling cars, not about what it takes to maintain them later...
Case in point: replacing the air filter should be a simple task, right? But noooooh, in my Audi A6, it took me at least 10 minutes to try and get the air filter out, not to mention putting it back in... There are 4 clips that hold the air cleaner cover in place, and one of them is only about 1 cm from the wheel well, so unle...Read Full Post »

I finally have my trusty 1990 Audi 100 back! Not too long after reaching 500,000 kilometers (that's 310,686 miles ...) on December 31, 2010, the automatic transmission decided it was time to quit (late February, 2011) ... But that's really not too bad: the original 3-speed automatic was rebuilt at about 129,000 miles, so that means that the rebuilt one lasted 182,000 miles (which is 40% longer than the original factory transmission).
The car drives fine now, although the shi...Read Full Post »

Audi invited some of us to test drive pre-production (ie: German versions...) of the new 2012 A7 models this past weekend (April 3 & 4).
The models we drove were essentially German-spec vehicles, as such they had a couple of features that we probably won't see here in the USA, most notably: left-side rear view mirrors that actually eliminate blind spots and a stop-light engine kill switch (in many countries in Europe you're supposed to turn off the engine if stopped at ...Read Full Post »
