Today, 12. June, 2011 Audi wins it's 10th (out of 13) LeMans races! Their brand new R18 diesel-powered LMP1 prototype race car using "Ultra" light technology won 1st place (with Peugeot taking 2nd & 3rd place).
Audi did unfortunately suffer 2 major crashes in the early part of the grueling 24 hour race, leaving it all up to just one car! The drivers of the 2 cars walked out of the wrecks, proving once again that Audi vehicles are safe (and in this year's case, having fully enclosed cockpits also helped!).
I viewed the race on the Speed Channel and managed to create a 3-hour DVD of this fantastic race for later viewing.
Several years ago, there was an excellent NFL Films documentary produced about Audi winning the LeMans, a must-see item for any Audi or racing enthusiast. It is called "The Truth in 24". It can be purchased or even downloaded for free from iTunes!

Audi invited some of us to test drive pre-production (ie: German versions...) of the new 2012 A7 models this past weekend (April 3 & 4).
The models we drove were essentially German-spec vehicles, as such they had a couple of features that we probably won't see here in the USA, most notably: left-side rear view mirrors that actually eliminate blind spots and a stop-light engine kill switch (in many countries in Europe you're supposed to turn off the engine if stopped at a light for more than a few seconds...).
About the only thing that bothered me was: there's only room for 4 (legally), since I did NOT see a seatbelt anchor on the middle seat in the back. That might put a cramp in giving family and friends a ride in your new ride!
